Visit the English speaking Catholic Church, the St.
Joseph Church located at 50 Avenue Hoche, 75008 Paris.
The church service is highly attended by filipinos.
After the 6:30 P.M. Mass every Sunday, there is a very small
"palengke" where you can buy filipino delicacies
such as puto, bibingka, chicharon, pritong bangus, at iba
pa. Right after the Mass celebration, Filipinos usually
stay for a while to socialize and make "chika".
The "palengke" does not stay long so be quick
to come!
The Saint Joseph Church also organizes lots of activities
where there's a big attendance of Filipinos. Click here
to see all of the Church's activities and information.
If you longed for a Tagalog Mass, go to the Chapelle Sainte
Bernadette d'Auteuil, situated at 4 rue d'Auteuil 75016.
Tagalog Mass is held on Sundays. Check for the exact schedule.
Like St. Joseph's there is also a small palengke offering
filipino goods.
The American
Church in Paris located at 65 Quai d'Orsay, 75007, is
also another place where you might encounter a Filipino.
The American Church also organizes multicultural activities
all year round. They also have a special program called
"The Filipino Fellowship".
Bois de Boulogne is usually where picnics, informal
gatherings and games happen. Weekends, mostly Sundays are
the time for these events, organized by groups, families
or friends.
Occasional traditional, cultural and religious activities
are also being organized all year through, mostly by groups
and associations. June or July is the month when we celebrate
the Barrio Fiesta, a yearly event attended by thousands
of our kababayans. Each association also has its own "gimiks"
usually open for everyone and mostly with a small fee.
The two filipino stores located at rue Mesnil in 16th district
(Metro Victor Hugo) are also good places to encounter our
kababayans. Whilst doing your shopping, you can start "kumustahan"
there. They are also good places to get informed
of some filipino socio-cultural activities as many organizers
tend to advertise there.
The other obvious place is of course the Philippine
Embassy in Paris, located at 4, Hameau de Boulainvilliers
75116 Paris. Although the consulate and embassy people are
not there to make casual sosylan, take note, they
are working after all, nevertheless you can inquire about
associations' contact information. I surely did it and they
were quite accommodating. They gave me a list of all the
filipino associations in Paris and I was taken aback by
the number. They are many indeed.
For the high-tech savvy people, madpinoy's
forum is your ultimate place to chat with other kababayans.
The site also has database for mixed-couples and many provide
their emails. Obviously they are open to friendship. So
go chatting.
For Filipino students studying in Paris
and somewhere else in France, a personal website is being
created by a friend. Visit the site here.
I understand it's not updated periodically due to students'
hectic life juggling time between learning french and finishing
theses, well among others. Nevertheless, the webmaster can
still be contacted.
If you know more of any places where
we can meet our kababayan, please email
me. |
